Helping dogs with challenging behaviors and the families who love them. We start when other trainers stop.
When Shana started volunteering at the local shelter, you couldn't approach him. If you tried to pet him, talk to him, even look at him, he'd lose control of his bladder. Complete terror.
Mikie worked with Brownie slowly and systematically. Shana watched the process, sometimes impatient, you need to hurry but Mikie kept building trust at Brownie's pace. Not the shelter's timeline, not the adoption schedule's demands. Just Brownie's pace.
"The first time I got to pet him," Shana remembers, "I almost cried."
When Brownie went home with his new family, trusting and ready for his new life, Shana knew something profound: "There's no way he ever would have had this in any shelter I've ever worked at. He would have been euthanized."
That was the moment Shana became a believer. When Mikie said "I want to start Pawsitive Affects," Shana's answer was immediate: "Sure, yeah, let's do this!"
Today, Brownie is living an amazing life with his family, a dog who would have been put down is now thriving because someone was willing to work at his pace.
We specialize in dogs with challenging behaviors: the ones other trainers have given up on. Dogs labeled "aggressive," "reactive," or "unadoptable." We don't believe in quick fixes or cookie-cutter programs. Every dog is different, even when they show the same behavior.
Our science-based methods address your dog's emotional response, not just suppress behavior. We meet your dog where they are today, not where we hope they'll be tomorrow. We don't abandon you after a set number of sessions, we support you until your dog is where you need them to be.
No judgment about what you've tried before. No financial barriers. Just proven methods, unwavering patience, and a team that genuinely cares.
We observe first, then build customized plans based on your dog's actual needs. No cookie-cutter programs or generic timelines.
We support you until your dog is where you need them to be. No "graduation" where we disappear. Call us, that's our commitment.
Donation-based training removes financial barriers. We serve Green Valley's diverse community. If you need help, we'll help you.

From Seattle dog walker to certified trainer, Mikie discovered her gift through observation - watching how dogs communicate through body language. She founded Pawsitive Affects on a simple promise: "I am here for the dogs. Period." That means working with dogs other trainers have given up on, meeting each one exactly where they are, and never stopping until they thrive. Superpower: Makes both dogs and humans believe anything is possible: her conviction is contagious

Punishment-based training such as shock collars, prong collars, alpha rolls… can stop unwanted behavior quickly. That’s why it’s still common. Your dog learns “if I do this, something bad happens,” so they stop doing it. In the moment, it looks like it works.
We’re not here to judge what you’ve tried before. Many loving dog owners use these methods because they didn’t know there was another way, or because a trainer told them it was necessary.
Here’s what punishment doesn’t do: it doesn’t change how your dog feels about the situation that triggered the behavior. A shocked dog may stop barking at other dogs, but they’re still afraid or anxious. They’ve just learned to suppress it. Over time, this can create new problems: increased fear, redirected aggression, or a dog who shuts down completely.
We’ve worked with too many dogs whose behavior got worse after punishment-based training, not better.
Real behavior modification through positive reinforcement takes longer. We’re not going to promise your dog will be “fixed” in 6 weeks. We’re changing your dog’s emotional response to triggers. Building confidence where there was fear, trust where there was anxiety. That takes time.
Some dogs make dramatic progress in days. Others take months of patient work (like Dolly). What matters is that the change is real, lasting, and built on trust, not suppression.
If you’re willing to commit to the process, we’ll walk this journey with you.
Sadie was so fearful no one at the shelter could touch her for 3 weeks. Mikie spent 6 weeks helping me earn her trust, and now Sadie gives face kisses and asks for affection. If you'd told me this was possible that first day, I wouldn't have believed you. We're forever grateful!

After you reach out, we'll call within 1-2 days for an in-depth conversation about what's happening with your dog and what you've tried. No judgment about the past, we focus on helping from today forward.
We come to you and assess your dog's behavior in their home environment. We meet the dog in front of us today, not the one we hope they'll become. Observation guides every next step.
We build a customized behavior modification plan using positive reinforcement to address your dog's emotional response, the root cause of behavior. You practice at home, and we adjust as needed.
Your dedicated trainer provides ongoing support. Call us anytime, even after formal training ends. We don't "graduate" you and disappear.
